Which exams does Apostrophe cover?

Apostrophe Academy covers preparation for the SAT in its digital format, IELTS and TOEFL iBT, alongside General English programs and placement assessments.

What is the difference between the SAT and the English exams?

The SAT is a university admission test measuring Math and Reading & Writing, used in evaluating an application. IELTS and TOEFL are English proficiency tests proving you can study in English. Many students need both: one admission test and one language certificate.

Clarity

What we do and what you do

What we do with you

  • Clarify which test fits your goal.
  • Diagnose your level and build a plan on it.
  • Teach, train and review errors.

What stays outside our control

  • Registering with the body that owns the test.
  • Committing to practice between sessions.
  • Verifying the requirement with your target institution.

Checklists

Before choosing a test

Check the requirement

  • Which test does your university or institution actually require?
  • What score is required?
  • By when do you need the result?
  • Are alternatives accepted?

Your readiness

  • A diagnostic before any plan.
  • A fixed, realistic weekly time slot.
  • A language base sufficient to start.
  • An error-review routine, not just question volume.

Common mistakes

Mistakes in choosing and preparing for a test

  • Starting preparation before knowing which test is required.Verify the university's requirement first.
  • Preparing without a diagnostic.Start by measuring the baseline so time goes to the right place.
  • Doing large volumes without review.Review is what turns practice into improvement.
  • Booking the test date too late.Book so there is room to retake if needed.

Terminology

What does "test preparation" mean?

Test preparation
Training aimed at one specific test: understanding its format, its question types, how it is marked, and practising it under real timing. It differs from studying a subject in general because it is tied to the structure of the test itself.
Standardised test
A test delivered in the same format and to the same standards for everyone who sits it, so results are comparable across applicants from different education systems.
English proficiency evidence
A certificate many universities ask for to show you can study in English; IELTS or TOEFL are commonly accepted, depending on the university's policy.
Placement test
A short test that establishes your current level before any track begins; its purpose is to place you, not to grade you officially.

Honest fit

When this page is not your starting point

  • If you are looking for test dates, centres or fees — those are official facts, found in our resource guides and on the exam bodies' own websites.
  • If your goal is better English for work or everyday communication with no test involved, General English is the right track.
  • If you need help choosing a university and building an application file more than help with a test, start from the University Admissions page.

  2. 2. A free academic consultation

A short conversation to understand where you are and what you are aiming at: what you have already tried, how much time you have, and what this track actually measures.

  3. 3. Choosing the right test and placing your level

We identify together which test actually serves your goal — based on what your target university or organisation asks for — then run a placement test for the chosen track.

  4. 4. A written recommended path, then you decide

We summarise what we recommend and why, and what the alternative is if this track is not the right fit — including the possibility that you do not need the service right now.

FAQ

Questions students and parents ask

Do I need both SAT and IELTS?

It depends on the program and university. Some pathways ask for an English test only, others also require an admissions test. We review the requirements of your target institution from its official source with you.

IELTS or TOEFL?

Both are widely recognised proficiency tests; the choice depends on what your target institution accepts and which test format suits you.

Which test should I take: SAT, IELTS or TOEFL?

It depends on what the admitting body asks for. The SAT is an academic aptitude test some universities use to assess applicants, while IELTS and TOEFL are English proficiency tests. Some students need one; others need two.

Can I prepare for more than one test at the same time?

It is possible, but it depends on the time available and your current level. In the consultation we discuss the most sensible order rather than automatically splitting your time evenly.

How do I start if I do not know my level?

With a placement test. It is the basis for the whole track and stops you spending time on material you already know.
