This page explains information owned by the body that runs the exam, rewritten in plain language for our students in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf. Format, fees and dates can change without notice, so always confirm on the official site before you register or make a decision.
In short
The essentials
- Registration happens through the official channels of the partners or their authorised centres.
- First choose the version (Academic or General Training) based on your institution's requirement.
- Then choose the delivery mode available to you: paper or computer.
- You need a valid identity document, and the same one is used on test day.
- Fees and dates are published officially and change, so we do not quote figures here.
- The speaking section may be scheduled on a different day and communicated by the centre.
Direct answers
Direct answers on booking IELTS from Saudi Arabia
Booking happens directly with the delivering organisation (British Council or IDP); no preparation centre books on your behalf.
How do I book IELTS from Saudi Arabia?
You book on the delivering organisation's site: choose your city, the version (Academic or General Training), the delivery mode (computer or paper) and an available date, then enter your details exactly as on your ID and pay online.
The details you enter are printed on your result form and matched against your ID on test day, so any mismatch in name order or ID number must be fixed before the date, not after.

Can I postpone or cancel my IELTS date?
Yes — the delivering organisations allow transfers or cancellations under a published policy tied to how far ahead of the date you request it, usually with an administrative fee or partial refund.
Important exception: Requests later than the published window are treated as a no-show with no refund, except in documented medical cases assessed by the test centre.
Do I need a course before booking?
No — booking is entirely independent of any course. Practically, though, it is better to know your current level first so you pick a date that matches the time you need to reach your target band.
At Apostrophe we start with a four-skill placement test, then build the plan around the date you choose — not the other way round.
Who is responsible for what
The bodies behind IELTS — and exactly where Apostrophe fits
IELTS is run by a partnership of three organisations, and a preparation centre is not one of them. This clears up a common misunderstanding at booking time.
British Council and IDP: IELTS Australia
Deliver the test
They run booking and test centres worldwide, set the available dates and fees in each country, and issue the result form.
Cambridge University Press & Assessment
Develop content and assessment
The partner responsible for developing the test questions and the assessment criteria the band score is built on.
Universities and immigration bodies
Decide what a band means
Each body decides for itself which band it accepts and which version of the test it requires. There is no universal pass mark in IELTS.
Apostrophe Academy
Preparation and guidance
Prepares students and explains booking and how the score is used in admissions. Apostrophe is not a testing body or an authorised IELTS test centre, and does not issue scores.
The timeline
The IELTS journey: before, during and after
Timing differs by student, depending on current level and the band their institution asks for; dates and fees are always checked with the delivering organisation.
- Before
Decide and prepare
- First confirm which version you need — Academic or General Training — and whether your institution accepts the computer-delivered or paper version.
- Know the exact band your institution asks for, including any per-skill minimum.
- Measure your current level with a full four-skill practice test before booking anything.
- Book a date that leaves realistic preparation time before your application deadline.
- Test day
What actually happens
- Listening, Reading and Writing are taken in one continuous sitting with no breaks between them.
- Speaking is a face-to-face interview with a certified examiner, either the same day or within a few days.
- Bring the same ID you booked with; a mismatch is a common reason candidates are turned away.
- Time management inside each section is yours: there is no extra transfer time in the paper version.
- After
Your result and the next step
- Results are released on the official schedule for the version you sat; computer-delivered is usually faster than paper.
- Read each skill band, not just the overall average — many institutions set a per-skill minimum.
- Compare your result against your institution's requirement before deciding to retake or request a remark.
- Send the result to universities through the test centre you booked with, within the result's validity period.
Why we insist on measuring your level before booking
IELTS fees are not small, and a premature attempt costs twice: once in the fee, and once in the time that could have gone into preparation. Even so, booking "to try it" is one of the most common patterns we see among new students.
At Apostrophe we start with a placement assessment that shows where you stand in each skill separately, then decide with you when booking makes sense. The decision remains yours, but it becomes a decision based on a number rather than a guess.
Where to find the official figures
You will not find riyal fees or specific dates on this page, and that is deliberate: those values are owned by the official partners and they change, so publishing them here would mean you read an outdated figure and act on it.
Use the official links at the bottom of this page for the value that is current when you read it, then come back to us with your plan if you want help preparing.
