The essentials
- Dates are published per centre and appear once you select your city and test version.
- Computer-delivered sessions are usually more frequent within a month than paper sessions.
- Booking closes a set period before the session, not on test day.
- Choose the date from your application deadline and result turnaround backwards — not from the wish to finish quickly.
Direct answers
Direct answers on IELTS dates
We do not state specific dates because sessions are opened per centre and change constantly; the official booking system is the reference.
When is IELTS held in Saudi Arabia?
IELTS sessions run throughout the year at authorised centres inside Saudi Arabia, and the dates actually available appear in the official booking system once you select your city, version and delivery mode.
Sessions are not uniform across cities: Riyadh and Jeddah may show more dates than smaller cities in the same month, because availability depends on the hosting centres.

How far in advance should I book?
Book as soon as your target date becomes available, because registration closes a set period before the session and seats can sell out before that cut-off.
Important exception: Some centres release extra seats close to the date when demand rises, but this is not guaranteed and is no basis for a plan.
Does the computer-delivered version have more dates?
Usually yes; computer-delivered sessions are opened more frequently within a month because a centre can run more than one session a day, while paper sessions are less frequent.
If your time before the deadline is tight, computer-delivered usually gives you an earlier date and a faster result — provided your institution accepts it.

Who is responsible for what
The bodies behind IELTS — and exactly where Apostrophe fits
IELTS is run by a partnership of three organisations, and a preparation centre is not one of them. This clears up a common misunderstanding at booking time.
British Council and IDP: IELTS Australia
Deliver the test
They run booking and test centres worldwide, set the available dates and fees in each country, and issue the result form.
Cambridge University Press & Assessment
Develop content and assessment
The partner responsible for developing the test questions and the assessment criteria the band score is built on.
Universities and immigration bodies
Decide what a band means
Each body decides for itself which band it accepts and which version of the test it requires. There is no universal pass mark in IELTS.
Apostrophe Academy
Preparation and guidance
Prepares students and explains booking and how the score is used in admissions. Apostrophe is not a testing body or an authorised IELTS test centre, and does not issue scores.
The timeline
The IELTS journey: before, during and after
Timing differs by student, depending on current level and the band their institution asks for; dates and fees are always checked with the delivering organisation.
- Before
Decide and prepare
- First confirm which version you need — Academic or General Training — and whether your institution accepts the computer-delivered or paper version.
- Know the exact band your institution asks for, including any per-skill minimum.
- Measure your current level with a full four-skill practice test before booking anything.
- Book a date that leaves realistic preparation time before your application deadline.
- Test day
What actually happens
- Listening, Reading and Writing are taken in one continuous sitting with no breaks between them.
- Speaking is a face-to-face interview with a certified examiner, either the same day or within a few days.
- Bring the same ID you booked with; a mismatch is a common reason candidates are turned away.
- Time management inside each section is yours: there is no extra transfer time in the paper version.
- After
Your result and the next step
- Results are released on the official schedule for the version you sat; computer-delivered is usually faster than paper.
- Read each skill band, not just the overall average — many institutions set a per-skill minimum.
- Compare your result against your institution's requirement before deciding to retake or request a remark.
- Send the result to universities through the test centre you booked with, within the result's validity period.
How IELTS dates are scheduled
Each authorised centre opens its own sessions in coordination with the delivering organisation, and those sessions then appear in the official booking system for anyone searching in that city. The schedule you see in Riyadh may differ from a student's in Jeddah or Khobar in the same week.
That is why there is no single annual IELTS calendar to publish. The correct method is to open the official booking system, select your city, version and delivery mode, and read the dates actually available to you at that moment.
Exactly when to book
Start from your application deadline and work backwards: the time for the result to reach the university, the result release time after the test, test day itself, then your preparation weeks. What remains is your real window for choosing a date.
- Book early if you are tied to one city: seats in smaller cities go faster.
- Leave room for a possible retake before your deadline, not after it.
- Check the result validity your institution accepts before booking a date that is too early.
