TOEFL iBT registration: what to verify before you pay

TOEFL iBT is booked through ETS with an account in the name shown on your passport. Fees and reschedule or cancellation policies vary by country and change, so they must be read from ETS's official page at the time of booking — and these are the points our students get wrong.

What to do now

  • Create the ETS account with your full name exactly as printed in your passport.
  • Read the fee and reschedule policy on ETS's page on the day you book.
  • Add your free score recipients during registration, not afterwards.

The name comes first

The most frequent TOEFL problem we handle is not academic: a small mismatch between the name on the account and the name in the passport can stop a student sitting the test or delay acceptance of the score. Enter the name literally as in the passport — same order, same spelling.

Fees and rescheduling

TOEFL fees and the reschedule policy are set by ETS and vary by country. We do not repeat the figures on this page because they change; the verified number with its check date sits on our TOEFL fees page, linked to ETS. What matters practically: rescheduling carries a fee up to a cut-off before the sitting, and after that cut-off it is not possible at all.
